The World of Work
Last summer I spent the month of August working in a warehouse for a pitiful £4.70/hour. This would be fine (I was 16 with no qualifications) if it wasn't a warehouse in a milk factory. And a large part of the job involved clearing up rotting milk and the accompanying flies, maggots, and foul smell.
This year I did slightly better. I got a job at a large civil engineering consultancy, doing drawings for road schemes and other such fun. This was not only interesting, and better paid, but as I'm applying to study civil engineering next year it will be a real boost to my university application. And there were no maggots.
(Interestingly, the recruitment company who had me working in the milk factory didn't want me this year until the very last week. What, am I not good enough for them?)
